Administrator, for his grandson Benvenuto, of the land that comprises the Bosco Vecchio (Old Forest), the retired colonel Sebastiano Procolo (Paolo Villaggio) is ready to do anything to possess the area. Moved by greed, the old military man tries to kill the boy in order to become the sole owner of the forest. But nature plays its hand ahd his attempts fail. Filmed in the area of the Dolomites between Auronzo and the Passo Tre Croci, and based on a story by the young Dino Buzzati, this enchanted fairytale becomes a fable in which not only do the animals (including the insects) speak, but so do the shadows and the wind. This Fable Is also a Christian and acologist's parable about respect for other and for nature, and about power and greed.
Ermanno Olmi
Ermanno Olmi (Bergamo, 1931 – Asiago, 2018) was a director, screenwriter and author. He began his early career directing documentaries that describe the world of industrial production for Edison-Volta. After conceiving and directing more than forty documentaries, he made his debut film, Il tempo si è fermato (Time Stood Still) in 1958. His career continued for more than fifty years, with a rigorous and poetic expressiveness attentive to the description of the relationship with nature, focusing his gaze on the daily life of the humble, in the memory of his own peasant origins.
