In the final year of World War II, in a small mountain village in Trentino, a family’s life is marked by a slow pace, daily work, and relationships governed by ancient customs. The arrival of a Sicilian soldier, who has taken refuge in the village, shatters this balance and opens a rift destined to upend affections, hierarchies, and silences. Amid desire, shame, and fear of collective judgment, the film observes a community that is both closed-off and fragile, where every gesture carries weight and every word resonates as a sign of belonging. With a sympathetic yet rigorous gaze, Maura Delpero crafts a collective coming-of-age story in which the Alpine landscape and the local language become a living part of the narrative.
