Born in 1985 in Tiksi, a small town in Northern Russia, she is a photojournalist who chronicles the lives of the people of the great North. She graduated from the International Center of Photography in New York. In 2013, she won the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and the ICP Infinity Award. Her images have been published in National Geographic, Le Monde, and the New Yorker. National Geographic honored her as a Media Innovation Fellow. She received an Oscar nomination for her short film Haulout (2022). She lives in London.
