In the Maasai village of Sayit, the community is about to receive the land titles that will allow its members to reclaim their ancestral lands. Since ownership is determined by kinship ties, Star, a thirty-eight-year-old woman, risks losing her home, as her origins are unknown, and she is unmarried. When she discovers her photograph in a magazine, she recognizes tribal markings that suggest a possible family connection to a travelling street vendor. This sets her on a determined quest to assert her rights—searching for the photographer who took the picture, considering a marriage of convenience, and even contemplating a morally ambiguous agreement with an NGO, a choice that puts her at odds with her community. As the film gradually draws closer to its protagonist, it paints a compelling portrait of a strong and resolute woman confronting the mistrust and envy of her own people. Without imposing a Western perspective, the director offers an intimate glimpse into the life of an African woman caught between tradition and change.
