Screenings

Venezuela’s economic collapse has forced nearly eight million people to flee their homeland. Many have sought refuge in Chile, undertaking a harrowing journey across the Andes and the Atacama Desert. As the world’s second-largest displacement crisis, this mass migration has fueled growing anti-immigration sentiment and violent protests. Convinced they must defend their way of life, segments of Chilean society have sought to make Venezuelan migrants feel unwelcome, attacking families and children while authorities have often stood by or treated those fleeing hunger, violence, and poverty as criminals rather than people in need of protection.Breathtaking aerial cinematography captures the vast majesty of the Andes and the stark beauty of the Atacama, creating a striking visual contrast with an atmosphere of mounting tension. An unsettling soundscape refuses the tranquility suggested by the landscapes, underscoring the constant sense of fear and uncertainty that accompanies the migrants' journey. Ultimately, the film affirms the resilience of the human spirit, revealing how compassion and solidarity can endure even in the face of brutality fueled by fear, prejudice, and racial hatred.
