Screenings

On the brink of a 180-meter-deep crater lake, a tragedy took place. And Suna, a successful singer, returning to her village on the Anatolian plateau for her nephew's wedding, is searching for the truth. She wants to shed light on her sister's mysterious death, which occurred years earlier. The journey is both a mission and an obsession for her. Her tormented and indebted younger brother lives in the village; he and his wife have no intention of dredging up the past. But Suna knows where to look to break the veil of silence surrounding this affair: the home of an elderly man who, she says, is feigning dementia to conceal his actions. Thus, amidst the mistrust and hostility of family and fellow villagers, a cat, Leyla, becomes her confidante and companion. When the animal disappears, the old man's granddaughter, an emancipated young woman who plays the saz, a type of Anatolian stringed instrument, engages with Suna in a dialogue to quench her thirst for the truth. The synesthesia of the title, Hear the Yellow, seems to combine listening to the past with a vision of the present, colored by the Anatolian mountains.
