Screenings

They climb trees, shout at the sky, smoke joints, and talk to each other through a hole in the wall they built to divide their home. They sleep among cabbages, chase, decapitate, and butcher a chicken, wander naked through the forest, bathe in—and eat—raw nettles, lick a toad, and arm wrestle, with the one-armed brother emerging victorious, while a talking cow narrates their story. They are František and Ondřej, twin brothers living on an isolated farm in the Bohemian Forest. Their life seems lifted from a fairy tale. So why not build a pair of wings inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's designs and hurl themselves from the manure heap in an attempt to fly? Amid the exhilarating chaos of their daily lives, the brothers speak wistfully of women and love before playing the accordion as the sun sets. Beyond their symbiotic bond—shaped by one brother's restless longing for adventure and freedom and the other's desire for peace and stability—their conversations drift toward the fate of the soul, memories of political struggle, and their relationship with death. A wildly original, tender, and exuberant portrait of two poets of life.
