Andariega means wanderer, and this word captures the entire quest for survival of María “Chena” Benítez, a young seasonal laborer employed on coffee plantations, in fish farming, and in woodworking in Colombia. Chena is a single mother. The mountains, with their steep coffee plantations, are the backdrop to a story of toil. For Maria, work is a necessity and a need for emancipation. She performs physically demanding tasks, such as carrying dozens of kilos of coffee beans on her shoulders or dragging heavy nets filled with fish. Due to climate change, coffee harvesting seasons are shortening, forcing her to travel frequently and spend time away from home, entrusting her son to her parents for weeks at a time. To further complicate the situation, she suffers a knee injury. Maria entrusts her thoughts to a diary, and the director entrusts his story to realistic images, shot without complacency, as harsh as her work.
