In the heart of the Dolomites, in Val Gardena, an ancient Rhaeto-Romance language is still alive and spoken: Ladin. Boys and girls play and explore woods, caves, and streams in search of something that strays from reality to fairytale. The resonances of the places, of the magic and myth they release, unfold through their play. In this way, both alienating and evocative, the director reimagines the ancient legends in Ladin, like a poetic choreography that becomes an imaginary journey between past and present. The images shot on 16 mm film alternate with graphic representations of sound waves that illustrate the sound of the story in the Ladin language: a language that survives in these valleys, along with the wealth of imagery it has held for centuries. In a wholly original way the film explores a cultural heritage that is not stagnant, but constantly evolving, as if to pass it on and entrust it to the curiosity and care of new generations.
