To communicate with his family and fellow villagers, Didier—deaf from birth and illiterate—has invented his own sign language. He has no need of it, however, when communicating with the Maury family's cows, the animals he lovingly tends on a farm in Auvergne. After the death of his beloved brother, Claude, Didier found solace in his work and in his bond with the animals. The void has gradually been filled by the affection of the Maury family, especially through his tender, playful connection with their young daughter. When the crisis threatening the livestock industry forces the family to sell their herd, Didier is put to the test. As his world begins to unravel, he must confront his fears and reimagine his place in the lives of those around him. Blending live-action footage with animation, the directors immerse us in Didier's daily life, telling his story entirely through his own sign language, without translation or subtitles. Its expressive power transcends words. Free of sentimentality or rhetoric, the film portrays Didier not as a disabled man, but simply as a man.
