Screenings

The farmer shouts, exasperated by a wolf approaching her flock's enclosure, challenging the guard dogs. Another shepherd prepares to camp out with her tent beside her flock. A cell phone records a wolf preying on a dog among the village houses. Meanwhile, in Forno di Zoldo, in the Belluno Dolomites, Father Gaudenzio organizes a heated meeting in the parish to discuss the wolf “problem,” visits the village school to talk to the curious children, and revives a 17th-century tradition: the exorcism mass against the wolf, complete with a Latin curse hurled at the beast, in the church packed with parishioners. The shepherds' faces, on the verge of nervous exhaustion, speak of the suffering and toil of “coexisting” with this animal species. Their testimony shows the point of view of those who try, at times desperately, to defend their animals from the predator and to find a coexistence that would seem impossible.
