Screenings

Two brothers navigate the ethnic tensions of early 1960s South Tyrol, culminating in the separatist bombings of 1961, in very different ways. Paul, an artist at heart, longs to leave for Munich to pursue his passion for drawing and sculpture in the big city. His older brother, Anton, is a staunch defender of the German-speaking minority and is willing to fight for the cause uncompromisingly. Caught up in an attack, Anton is forced to flee, leaving Paul to care for his farm, wife, and young son. Circumstances derail Paul's dreams, which remain hidden beneath the sheets that cover his sculptures, his passions, and his fears. As events accelerate, the dreams of both brothers are ultimately shattered. A portrait of a controversial period in history, the story intertwines historical events—many of which remain only partially understood—with a deeply personal narrative, revealing the family bonds and social tensions that have shaped the recent history of South Tyrol.
