L'ULTIMO ASINO
THE LAST DONKEY
Angelo Urbano / Italy / 2023 / 20 min / Colour
Every day, in the Calabrian mountains, Peppe Marano traveled from the village to his house in the woods with a donkey, the last one left in his community. "The Last Donkey was born from the desire to tell the story of a world before its definitive disappearance. An archaic and rural world that we thought was extinct, but which still lives and perhaps for one last time through our old farmer and his inseparable companion," writes director Angelo Urbano who captures their moments with discretion. In the embrace of an unchanged landscape, the farmer under the weight of the years and the donkey with his load, the habits, the rhythms, the time marked by the meals and small gestures of Peppe Marano do not change. Urbano dedicates this documentary to his memory.
