VOICES OF EL ALTO
Finlandia, Sud Africa / 2013 / 49 min / Colour
El Alto, at 4.000 metres in the High Andres of Bolivia, is the setting for a fascinating documentary project. In the market of the city, a StoryTent is installed: a tent with a camera ready at any moment to film the stories, anecdotes, and outbursts of the inhabitants of these places. For the people of El Alto, this installation becomes an extraordinary loudspeaker through which to shout to the world about their difficulties, anxieties, and disappointments, but also a vehicle for exhibiting their surprising and unprecedented talent asstorytellers and impromptu street performers.
