SHOES FROM TRIESTE
Gregor Božič / Germany / 2014 / 11 min / Black and white
Italian premiere
The greatest potential of memory is perhaps the possibility to bring to the surface, from amongst recollections of dark, bleak times, a happy moment that can still evoke a smile. And so, an old lady reminisces about her youth, spent in a small town on the Italian-Slovenian border, where war left rubble and misery in its wake. There was nothing left, but just putting on one’s “dress” shoes, so carefully preserved from the ravages of pebbles andearth, allowed access to a world of dance and colours, as if by magic.
