LA MONTAGNA INFRANTA
THE SHATTERED MOUNTAIN
Italia / 2013 / 30 min / Colour
At the end of 1963, Luigi Di Gianni was among the first to record the testimony of survivors of the Vajont catastrophe. With his documentaries, he gave voice to the tragedy, as the investigative reports of Tina Merlin on the risks of building the dam attempted, in vain, to avoid it. After fifty years, Di Gianni returns to those places. The period footage, animation, and original soundtrack interpret the recollections, the pain, and the grieving for the more than two thousand victims and the unsustainable affliction of the survivors who lost both their loved ones and their possessions. This is not a celebration of death, but rather a song to life that tells of the rebirth of a strong, tenacious people.
