IN SILENCE EVERYTHING ROARS
Akaki Popkhadze / France / 2023 / 23 min / Colour
"Once upon a time there was a man in love with his childhood friend's sister" is the incipit of this fairy tale that is not destined for a happy ending. In a village in the Georgian snows, Zourab and Natia live a secret love story. Their passion, hidden but intense, clashes with the rigid social norms and, when the news of their relationship spreads, the situation in the village becomes uncontrollable. The story is divided into three chapters: love, gossip, and marriage; there are also three boys who are possessive of Natia: her brother, Zourab, and a third boy, on whom attention will focus only in the choral observation of the conclusion. The film takes us into a world that explores the ancient values of family, honour, and the desire of young people to experience feelings freely, without a single word because the faces of the protagonists already say it all. In the closures and in the lack of dialogue, in the silence, "everything screams."
