LE MONDE MYSTERIEUX DES HAUTS PLATEAUX

TEPUI - INTO THE HOUSE OF GODS

Lars Abromeit, Jochen Schmoll / Germany, Venezuela / 2023 / 52 min / Colour

Italian premiere

In Venezuela, a country with lunar landscapes and a harsh climate, stand the Tepui, plateaus that dominate the tropical jungle and known as "mountains of the gods" in indigenous culture. Some of these imposing mountain massifs have never been explored by man. In the Canaima National Park, in the southeastern part of the country, an international scientific team undertakes a mission to the Auyán Tepui which is over 2,400 metres high. Deep within this sandstone giant, Italian geologist Francesco Sauro and his companions discovered a vast cave system. The documentary recounts this expedition, uniting the expert voices of geologists, microbiologists, bioacousticians, and mountaineers in a harsh and mysterious environment.
