UN PASTEUR
A SHEPHERD
Louis Hanquet / France / 2024 / 71 min / Colour
Félix is a young shepherd with a melancholic and reserved temperament who leads a life suspended in time. He lives in solitude and works with his father to guard and herd the family flock. From autumn to spring he devotes himself to his animals, feeding and protecting them, while in the summer he breaks away from his father and travels more than two hundred kilometres on foot through the oak forests of the French Pre-Alps to lead the herd to mountain pastures. Once he reaches the Ubaye valley, he finds himself in a nearly inaccessible, rock-filled world, where the presence of the wolf, a creature as invisible as it is omnipresent, is deeply felt. In this harsh and isolated environment, Félix faces his choice to pursue a profession that distances him from the conventions of the modern world. However, he accepts the company of a director who seeks to understand his deeper motivations.
