Italian premiere
A couple, husband and wife, live in a small house on the edge of the forest. Their life’s work has been making coal according to the ancient art that has remained unchanged over time. The camera tenderly observes their daily life: the coal smoke, lunchtime, their few words exchanged, their affection for their old dog, and their good-natured bickering almost as though part of a fable from a lost world, but without the happy ending filled with health and happiness.
