Hasan’s family fell into poverty when his father went to prison. His mother works in the city as a cleaning woman and little Hasan stays at home with his two brothers in their mountain village. To earn some money, every day he crosses the woods with his carafe of ayran, a yoghurt drink, to reach the road and sell it to passers-by. It is the middle of winter. One day, returning home tired and hungry, Hasan hears the wolves nearing and, terrified, begins to run. While the cries of his mother, who is searching for him desperately, mix with the wolf’s howling, Hasan is on the other side of the forest. The film tells not only Hasan’s story, but also that of the people who inhabit the world around him. It shows us how every person’s life is connected to that of others, how each of us is responsible for others, and how an apparently insignificant gesture for one person can have a great effect on the life of another.
