STROMBOLI – TERRA DI DIO
STROMBOLI – LAND OF GOD
Italia / 1950 / 107 min / Black and white
Karin, a Lithuanian refugee (Ingrid Bergman), marries a young Sicilian and follows him to his native Stromboli, but finds the bleak environment and archaic mentality of the islanders so disturbing and oppressive that she makes a tragic escape. Shot entirely on Stromboli, along with the story of the protagonists it includes authentic images of the island, including scenes of fishing and of the evacuation due to an eruption, which constitute a kind of documentary within the film.
