SUL VULCANO
ON THE VULCANO
Italia / 2014 / 80 min / Colour
Maria, Matteo and Yole: three lives at the foot of Vesuvius. With images of yesterday and today, are intertwining stories of lives lived, religious visions, and philosophic suggestions. The director gives us a portrait of the “crazy land” dominated by the volcano, a place that is unique in the world, so rich with history, mythology, and literary evocations. It makes us wonder us the proverbial Neapolitan fatalism might not derive from the cumbersome, menacing presence of Vesuvius that, after two millennia, could at any moment threaten the survival of these lands. But which is more dangerous today: the mountain or Man?
