THE TIN HAT
Giuseppe Boccassini / Germany, Italy / 2014 / 15 min / Colour
“In every combat, the eyes are the first part subdued”. Taking Tacitus’ premise as his starting point, the director creates an optical-visual reworking of amateur footage in 8 and 35 mm evoking scenes of war. This footage—overlapped, overexposed, enlarged and deformed with lenses and the play of light—at times has no soundtrack, but captures our attention with images alone, leading us to reflect on the details and enjoy the charms of the undefined, in this era of high definition.
