Pokuza’s cheerfulness and love of life are contagious. Born deaf, she never attended school and communicates using sign language. She lives with her family in the mountains of the Talish area in Azerbaijan. Her days are filled with pastoral labours, but there will soon be a wedding in the family and the expectations are increasingly palpable. Her friendship with Camille, the director, is sincere and deep, marked by gestures and silence. In front of the camera, she confesses before going to sleep, by the light of the meadows and in the intimacy of the night. Even when they will be apart, the two can continue their dialogue by “greeting the moon”.
Camille Chaumereuil
Born in France in 1987, she moved to India to study documentary filmmaking in Pondichérry. To make Nous saluerons la lune, she learned Azerbaijani and sign language. With the film she took part in the Festival della Montagna in Cuneo and the Festival Curieux Voyageurs in St. Etienne.
