MUERTE BLANCA
WHITE DEATH
Cile / 2013 / 17 min / Colour
On May 17, 2005, three regiments of young conscripts in the Chilean army went to Antuco, in the Andes for the tradition, annual training in the mountains. They were surprised by a violent snowstorm, but this did not sway their commanders’ intent to complete the military exercise. And so, on May 18, the bravado and stubbornness of the superior officers pushed forty-five ill-equipped young people toward a senseless death in the depths of the snow. This short animated film is an impressionistic portrait of a landscape marked by tragedy.
