KÜHE, KÄSE, UND 3 KINDER

COWS, CHEESE, AND THREE CHILDREN

Susanna Fanzun / Switzerland / 2015 / 90 min / Colour

Braida (age 8), Marchet (6) and Jon (3) spend the summer on Gün Alp, at 1995 metres above sea level in the Safien Valley in Switzerland. While their parents work, the children spend their days playing freely or helping out in the stables and making cheese. Braida has his school’s permission to stay in the mountains and write to his class in Engadina, telling about his experiences up there. His narration becomes the story of a life in close contact with nature and animals. Far from WI-FI signals, the three children discover the joy of running through meadows, finding a hen who hid away to hatch her eggs, gathering berries, and bathing in the gelid fountain. They savour the grandiosity of the mountains and seek shelter during stormy nights.
