CONTADINI DI MONTAGNA
MOUNTAIN FARMERS
Italia / 2015 / 74 min / Colour
Valle di Cembra, Trentino. In one of the most evocative landscapes in the Alps, cultivated almost exclusively with grape vines, farmers tell the story of a valley where agriculture forms the cornerstone of the economy. If the gestures of men between the planted rows appear immutable, the new procedures seem to question the contradictions of mountain agriculture, from crop diversification to protection of the landscape. A conversation amongst various generations reveals continuities and discontinuities, as well as the ability to renew traditions and the need to graft onto these new understanding and techniques, as well as the urgency to define a sustainable strategy for the entire valley. Rare archival images juxtapose with modern ones to narrate the work of man and the rhythm of the seasons.
