CAPO E CROCE, LE RAGIONI DEI PASTORI
HEADS AND TAILS, THE REASONS OF THE SHEPHERDS
Marco Antonio Pani, Paolo Carboni / Italy / 2013 / 104 min / Black and white
In June 2010, thousands of shepherds from all over Sardinia joined forces, and the Sardinian Shepherds’ Movement unleashed a resounding protest. During the long summer that followed, the shepherds invaded ports, airports, and roads, flooding the streets of Cagliari and occupying the regional government’s headquarters. They fought to achieve dignity and a fair price for their main product: milk. This film, however, is not the record of those events, but rather an unusual journey that explores the shepherds' motivations and their daily life in the mountains of Sardinia, in search of the origins of the protest.
