From the quarries in the mountains above Lop Nur lake, in western China, asbestos is extracted. Clouds of dust rise in the air and cover everything, like a whitish mist that hides the sun. The poor quality masks worn by the workers do nothing to protect them from inhaling this toxic dust. Many become ill. Among them are children. But despite this miserable work in the mines and their life in the simple barracks, where they sleep on makeshift mattresses covered in plastic, they have not lost the joy of living and accept this work which, in the end, gives them the possibility to earn a wage.
