PASTORES DE LA NIEBLA
HERDERS OF THE MIST
Spagna / 2013 / 55 min / Colour
Italian premiere
The shepherds of the Picos de Europas, the first national park in Spain, feel they are a species on the verge of extinction. Their flocks rise amidst the fogs and above the waves of the Cantabrian Sea. Here they graze their sheep, carrying on a culture that dates back thousands of years and risks disappearing despite their efforts to modernize it with the founding of herder schools and cheese-making factories. Theirs is a valiant struggle to pass these traditions on to the next generation and contribute to the protection of the mountain environment, its biodiversity, and its typical products, such as Gamoneu del Puerto cheese.
