Lupano Leyva
Messico / 2010 / 16 min / Black and white
Italian premiere
A federal soldier at the time of the Mexican Revolution, Lupano Leyva fights to survive. He was gravely wounded during an attack and now wanders amongst the mountains, gripped by increasing frenzy. With a bone protruding from his ribs, he is rescued by a mocking minstrel whose singing seems to recount the absurdity of war. He will meet a wealthy landowner at the sumptuous banquet of a prelate, but will not taste a crumb of the food. Not even the comforting of his family will succeed in consoling him. His life is ending; his wandering seems to be a meditation and an awakening to the absurdity of his war experience for which he is now paying the price. The background of the arid Mexican mountains, made even more dramatic in black-and-white, sets the tale of poor Lupano Leyva in a vividly surreal atmosphere.
