ORGANISERET VILDSKAB
ORGANIZED WILDERNESS
Phie Ambo / Denmark / 2022 / 55 min / Colour
Immediately after Bangladesh, Denmark is the second most cultivated country in the world, but in the last 20 years 80% of its species have become extinct and it is now urgent to help get biodiversity back on track. The documentary, divided into four acts and filmed over four years, follows Denmark's largest rewilding project in Hammer Bakker, North Jutland, a coniferous forest so dense that life on the ground is almost non-existent. Local authorities decide to restore native species by transforming industrial plantations into natural forests. This involves cutting down the current forest, a drastic act that arouses mixed feelings among the locals, as well as the possibility of reintroducing animals to be left free to graze. By interviewing experts, environmentalists and locals, Phie Ambo reflects on the connection with nature and the sense of transience that accompanies us and which often pushes us to want results in a brief time.
