MA POULE

MY GIRL

Caroline Ophelie / France / 2023 / 18 min / Colour

Italian premiere

After the rooster's death, the only surviving hen in Jasper's henhouse falls into a deep depression. The seventy-year-old takes the situation very seriously and does everything to stay close to her: he tries to console her, keeps her with him during meals and close to his bed when she sleeps. Forced to descend from the mountain, Jasper goes in search of company for his beloved feathered friend. Among the film's unusual directing techniques, sound plays a fundamental role in conveying the irony of the situation. The story of Jasper and his hen conveys the depth of the emotional bonds that can be established between a person and an animal. This time, at the center of attention is not man, who often uses animals to feed himself, but the hen, with her emotional breakdowns to resolve.
