Jack Torrance, a former lecturer and writer in crisis with a tendency to alcoholism, accepts the job of caretaker for the winter season of the Overlook Hotel, in the Rockies. Determined to find serenity and inspiration, he goes up with his wife Wendy and their seven-year-old son Danny, who discovers he possesses the "Shining", psychic abilities through which he experiences visions of the terrible events that took place in the structure ten years earlier. Jack, gradually pervaded by a growing madness, obsessively repeats the phrase "The morning has gold in its mouth", until he is possessed by a murderous desire. Wendy and her son will have to fight for their lives to escape the terrible fate that looms. In classic Kubrick style, The Shining features notable technological innovations, such as the use of a handheld steadycam that creates claustrophobic, uninterrupted fluid footage. It's a gripping horror experience that explores the darkest side of the human psyche.

  Stanley Kubrick (1928-1999) was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. Considered one of the most important and influential filmmakers of all time, he directed milestones in the history of cinema, including Paths of Glory (1957), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), A Clockwork Orange (1971), Barry Lyndon (1975), The Shining ( 1980), Full Metal Jacket (1987), spanning many genres and often combining critical acclaim and public success. Several times nominated for an Oscar, he got one for special effects in 1969, as well as the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement (1997).
