On the one hand, a clever manager of an Alpine hotel in the Engadin, in the Swiss valley of the Canton of Grisons. On the other, an awkward man named Toni Anewater, played by Trenker himself, who transforms into a handsome instructor, full of suitors, when he puts on skis. When he realizes that Toni has a considerable following of girls, unbeknownst to him, the hotel manager decides to send fake love letters from him, complete with photo and signature, to entice the young girls to return to stay in the hotel . The courses will be filled with jealous pupils and, amid pranks and daring situations, one of them will capture the maestro's heart. Liebesbriefe aus dem Engadin shows us a new Trenker, as we have never seen him before. It is the only light comedy he made, sentimental and funny, which betrays the rules of the classic genre and which shows the more light-hearted and popular side of the mountain experience.

  Luis Trenker

  Luis Trenker (1892-1990) was a South Tyrolean director, writer, and mountaineer born in Ortisei, and a Ladin native speaker. He began in cinema as an actor in the 1920s, and then became a director, protagonist, and author of his own films, which often brought stories of mountain people to the screen, especially his own mountains. He was forbidden to work in film during the Nazi period, as he refused to submit to the regime. He was awarded a prize in Venice in 1936 for Der Kaiser von Kalifornien. He achieved success with Liebesbriefe aus dem Engadin (1938).
