An excursion on Vesuvius, from the cultivated slopes to the barren peak, before these landscapes were devastated by the eruption of 1906. The journey begins on board the first Pugliano – Vesuvio funicular, built in 1878 and made famous in the popular imagination with the song Funiculì Funiculà. At the top, cheerful tourists witness an eruption of vapours, dramatically coloured in red, and then descend, transported on rudimentary sedan chairs.
