The animation depicts a desolate forest that has become a landfill. Young Joel accompanies his brusque father to retrieve objects and old iron with a Garrano horse, a small pony of which few examples remain in the mountains in the north of Portugal. The exhausted horse is forced to drag a cart with very heavy loads under the scorching sun. The child accidentally discovers a man who is about to set fire to the forest and who will endanger both the boy's life and that of the animal tied with a rope to a tree. Child and horse, in an environment violated by the neglect and insensitivity of their father and master, both suffer the harassment of men, dreaming of a liberating race free from the burden of exploitation and the threat of fire.
