TARDO AGOSTO
LATE AUGUST
Federico Cammarata, Filippo Foscarini / Italy / 2021 / 47 min / Colour
Still silhouettes of horses gradually emerge from the mists. The arid undergrowth is burned by the fire. The wind comes to break the summer away. A helicopter brings sea water to put out the fire at the gates of the city. Meanwhile, the camera follows, from a distance, as if not to intrude too much into his life, the black shepherd who in an old farmhouse prays to his God, plows the parched earth before the arrival of the storm, and listens to the voice announcing the birth of a daughter who he cannot see. Long shots, insistent shots, slow camera movements and a rich sound commentary, without a musical note and few distant voices, immerse us with poetic force in the landscape of a wounded island, Sicily.
