On the wide and wild promontory of Serra dos Mangues, which faces the Atlantic Ocean, the elderly shepherd Felipe contemplates poetry in the company of the dog Flech and his flock of goats and sheep. While the man moves amongst the sparse pastures of the cliff, embracing the rugged and majestic contours of the territory, he leads us through the movements of his everyday life, shared with his wife Emilia. His unique bond with this land and the intimate relationship he has established with each of his beasts, are the counterpart of a change that slowly pervades the feeling of the places, while the Serra opens up to the practices of tourism. La Voie du Berger probes the memory of the landscape and its ability to regenerate itself and questions the necessary and possible coexistence of different lives and rhythms.

Sylvain Ferrari is a film director and director of photography. He made the short films, Rurality Show (2010), La Nature de l’homme (2012) and La Voie du Berger (2021).
