GON, THE LITTLE FOX

Takeshi Yashiro / Japan / 2020 / 28 min / Colour

When Gon, a little orphaned fox, discovers that young Hyojyu has lost his mother, he begins to secretly bring him small gifts to comfort him and make amends for his mischief. Hyojyu is grateful for the mushrooms, hazelnuts and chestnuts that he continues to receive and which help to sustain him, but he is unable to discover who is behind these anonymous gifts. Still filled with anger over his mother's untimely death, the boy will push himself and the little fox towards a tragic fate. Takeshi Yashiro adapts in sublime animated images with the artisanal technique of stop motion one of the most beloved children's stories in Japan, published in 1932 by Nankichi Niimi, considered by many to be the Japanese Andersen.
