For Your Sake
Ronja Hemm / Germany / 2020 / 38 min / Colour
Two daughters of a Tamang family are preparing to leave the village to study abroad. Nepal is facing great changes and an important generational shift: girls have high hopes for a better life, but the price of well-being is immeasurable. They must, in fact, leave behind the greatest wealth of the Tamang people: the family. In the preparations for their journey, the sisters weave a calm and profound dialogue, made up of minimal joys and inevitable bitterness, with their mother and grandmother. The two women are living testimony of the harsh conditions of traditional life. An authentic and intimate portrait of Nepal, evoked by the gazes of three generations of women.
