Marana

Giovanni Benini, Davide Provolo / Italy / 2020 / 64 min / Colour

In Marana di Crespadoro, in the upper Vicenza area, live Max and Mirko, Lorenzo and Giorgia and many others, guests of the Villa Santa Rita community, which takes in minors with autism spectrum and behavioural disorders. Their voices and gestures emerge from the images, drawing an intimate and flamboyant portrait, like the mark of a stone engraved on the rusty iron of a barrel. Giovanni Benini and Davide Provolo's camera draws concentric routes crossing the bodies and the looks of the protagonists, pursuing a progressive abandonment to the time of singing and free youth. Theirs is a dancing camera that approaches and stops to bring out the words and gestures of the girls and boys of Marana. From the forest that surrounds the community, a space of struggle and fraternity, the camera takes us into dark, smoking rooms where one can dance and lose oneself, alone or in the embrace of another.
