Among the high plains of the Caucasus, a day in the life of the last narrow-gauge railway. While woods and mountains flow out of the windows, the travellers inside the wagon chat and quarrel amiably. This is a microcosm inhabited - albeit for the time of a race - by a varied population that the young director scrutinises with both curiosity and modesty. Voices and sounds explode exuberantly and immediately get lost, dragged into the great din of the rails that run, tracing an ideal link between a past that is always remote and an uncertain future, but one that cannot be postponed again. The fate of the narrow-gauge railway is in fact that of retirement, one day, together with the silent and melancholy driver, who has been running that route for twenty years as a faithful substitute for a missing friend.
