BEYOND THE OBVIOUS – DANIEL SCHWARTZ. PHOTOGRAPHER
Vadim Jendreyko / Switzerland / 2018 / 70 min / Colour
Four years traveling around the world to survey the health of the great glaciers with the scrupulous eye and the participation of the camera: they are only the latest segment of a lifetime, that of the Swiss photographer Daniel Schwartz, spent in constant motion of the body and mind, in uninterrupted reflection on the landscape, its transformations, and our gaze upon it. The director accompanies us in a privileged meeting with a master of humanist sensibility, guided by a deep sense of history and understanding of the stratified reasons of our time. Appropriating the gaze of a man who has always used art as an instrument of awareness, we are invited to look at the mountains and their commanding importance with attentive eyes, rejecting the distractions in the same way that Schwartz seeks the best technical and artistic approach with which to capture these benevolent deities of stone and ice.
