LE ALLETTANTI PROMESSE
TEMPTING PROMISES
Chiara Campara, Lorenzo Faggi / Italy / 2017 / 68 min / Colour
Esino Lario is a village in the Pre-Alps, in the province of Lecco. 745 inhabitants live at 910 meters above sea level, on the border between Italy and Switzerland: an ancient community, that has not changed for generations, following the natural rhythms of the plateau. In June 2016, this small town hosted Wikimania, the world gathering of Wikipedia volunteers. The meeting of two worlds, and of two opposite ways of life, takes shape through a voyage within Esino Lario and its inhabitants, exploring glimpses of everyday life. Hunting, religious rituals, and parties flow in a dimension far from modern times, among the stone-paved streets. In a hotel in the center of the town live migrants, guests often left on the margins, in search of their own place in the community. What kind of reception can this small microcosm reserve for an international conference of one of the most important digital resources of the contemporary world?
