DROUGHT
Lilit Petrosyan / Armenia / 2018 / 14 min / Colour
In a small village in the Armenian mountains, the elderly swineherd Lavrient struggles to keep the family together. The son seems unable to provide for the needs of his loved ones and the daughter-in-law has created a scandal by betraying her husband. The old man runs from one house to another by taxi, taking care of his grandchildren and finding words of understanding and comfort for the disoriented and angry adults. His loneliness is manifested in the memory of his parents and his wife, long dead, while everyday life must continue, even with the hostilities of the villagers, who push the family to the margins of the community. With deep empathy, the director participates in the pain and the reasons of all the protagonists, while the poignant music of Chet Baker accents the universal dimension of a very intimate pain.
