ONE OF THE ROUGHS, A KOSMOS
Carmine Grimaldi / United States / 2017 / 21 min / Colour
Italian premiere
On a farm in the deep countryside of the USA, a hirsute father and his wild-looking, red-haired daughter live with their animals, in a simple way like "the roughs" celebrated by Whitman. While he plays the organ, sculpts animal bones and walks, limping, in the fields, she plays with her dog, and with geese, chickens and sheep in the farmyard, climbs trees, and builds strange sculptures with dolls and found objects. The two have an understanding based on few words, conventional signs, jokes and laughter, in a microcosm where they live in wonderful harmony. The director draws a tender and touching portrait, capturing the intimacy.
