In the barren steppe of Kazakhstan unfolds the sad saga of a modest family of shepherds, inspired by a story written by Orkhan Bokey. The old shepherd and his wife have a single son who, at the dawn of adolescence, begins to understand the complex and difficult relationships between adults. The only contact with the outside world comes with the arrival of a wealthy neighbour who, taking advantage of the shepherd's absence, seduces his young wife despite the boy's attempts to stop them. The oppressive solitude of the characters, among whom dominates a stifling silence interrupted only by fleeting glances and essential dialogue, leads to the ruinous, if inevitable, wreck of the precarious family situation.
Yelzat Eskendir
A young Kazakh director, he graduated from the Kazakh National University Al-Farabi in philology, and attended a master's program at the National Art Academy "T. Zhurgenov" in Almaty (Kazakhstan). The Off-Season (2016) is his debut short film.
