MACBETH
Justin Kurzel / France, United Kingdom, United States / 2015 / 113 min / Colour
This cinematic adaptation of Shakespeare's masterpiece is unusual for its faithfulness to the original and the gloomy setting that provides a counterpoint to the desert-like souls of the protagonists. In a dismal, mountainous, medieval setting, after a bloody battle the valiant combatant Macbeth meets three witches who predict his future, confiding in him that he will become the king of Scotland. This cryptic prophecy reawakens the seed of avidity and thirst for power in Macbeth, further nourished by the frustration and desire for redemption of his wife, Lady Macbeth. In a swell of crimes and deceit, the two are dragged into a vortex of death and destruction that will lead to the annihilation of both.
